How did the design concept come about? Carl and Jeanne Moesly were down by the boat ramp one day, watching the women maneuver on the slippery decks of the boats, handling lines, keeping the boat from hitting the dock and trying to not fall overboard while the 'man' was jockeying back and forth with the throttle. Carl went to the drawing board and began designing a boat with a forward cockpit. Jeanne liked the new design and stated, "Let's call it a Bowrider!" The name stuck.
The first boat was manufactured just in time for the 1965 Miami Boat Show. The Bowrider arrived under wraps for no one to see until opening day when the cover was removed. It was a big hit at the show and orders poured in causing Moesly to expand his newly built manufacturing plant.
Other manufacturers soon copied the concept, but missed one very important non-visible detail. Carl designed the bottom with extra lift up front to compensate for the weight of the passengers in the forward cockpit.
